The Sons of Pericles Honor and Remember 9/11, 25 Years Later

The attacks of September 11, 2001, left a deep mark on the United States and the world. With the destruction of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and it's rededication as a National Shrine at the World Trade Center site, the Greek diaspora was deeply struck as well. We pray for and honor all who perished, and the thirty-nine Greek Americans who passed. Twenty-five years later, the Sons of Pericles continue to honor the memory of those lost and the heroes who emerged that day.

The Sons of Pericles continue to mourn the loss of our fallen brother John Katsimatides, formerly of Apollo Chapter 287 of Jackson Heights, New York, who tragically perished on that day.  We honor his memory, as well as the courage and sacrifice of first responders, community members, and citizens across the country.

The 25th anniversary of 9/11 is a moment to reflect on the courage and unity that emerged from tragedy. Sons of Pericles around the world should honor this day by looking back and honoring our fallen brother and all who perished, but also by moving forward with hope and strength to the future of a world brought together in solidarity. Engaging in memorial services, supporting our communities, and sharing stories ensures that the memories of those lost on 9/11 are eternally honored.

May their memories be eternal.
