The Smile of the Child
This year our national project is The Smile of the Child (Το Χαμόγελο του Παιδιού). “The Smile” is a voluntary non-profit organization in Greece who support children who are victims of violence, poverty, are missing, or have health problems. For over 20 years this international organization has undertaken important pioneering initiatives, presented significant know-how & working operating models to other international network members, resulting to extensive recognition & appreciation abroad. Working together with the Maids of Athena, we hope to raise awareness for these children and support them in every way we can.
Started in 1995, Smile of a Child is an organization dedicated every day, year-round to helping children to foster love, affection, care, and respect. The organization sets out to help children of all statuses: victims of abuse, those in bad health, any child gone missing, as well as poor children of the world. It was the dream of a young boy Andras Yannopoulos, who died early in life. Smile of a Child was a goal of his, written out in his diary and achieved post-mortem. To this day, according to their website, they have supported 1.3 million children in need and their families; it is also evident they show no signs of slowing down. They have many locations spread across Greece, all open, available, and dedicated to spreading their message and helping in any way they can. They do not only raise money, but provide services for prevention, intervention, and therapy, depending on the situation. The organization understands it is not enough to help victims, but to act preemptively as to prevent violence, sickness, negligence, or poverty from afflicting a child if possible. We invite you to their website “www.hamogelo.gr” for more information.
We appreciate all of your efforts in helping us reach our goal. We know that if we all come together to sell tickets, participate in events, and represent our orders as we should, we will reach our goal and support a great organization like Smile of a Child. If you have any questions, or would like to make a donation, please contact Supreme Treasurer Tim Noitsis (email@example.com) or Supreme Governor Ryan Marinos (firstname.lastname@example.org).
